WhyFirefoxIsBlocked.com show their true colours

In recent weeks there has been a sort of micro-backlash against Firefox and AdBlock+ by the sorts of people who believe it is their right to force advertisements down your throat. The responses have been many and various, but usually with the gist of "If you can't support your business model without invasive advertising, maybe it's your business model that's the problem."

Either way, the general impression given by the folks at whyfirefoxisblocked.com is one of arrogance and misplaced blame for their own failings. This has never been more so than the recent response to Wladimir Patal "breaking" the method they use to detect AdBlock+ and refuse access accordingly.

The diatribe can be found here, and for the first couple of paragraphs sound like the same sort of whining that has gone before. Apparently not looking at adverts is tantamount to theft, which is not only ridiculous but also no different to the nonsense they've trotted out before.

The new, interesting part comes a little later. Have a read of this:

"As a German, I imagine Palant simply doesn't understand the America concept of taking risks to stand up for your rights. That would be why the German people so placidly allowed Hitler to turn their nation into his own personal toilet, and we Americans had to rescue the world from their mess."

Well, that's it. I'm convinced. I mean, if you can trot out some jaded WWII rhetoric about how the Americans "saved the world" then of course you win the argument. I'd be a fool to deny the sheer MIGHT of AMERICA! Right! Right?

So this is what whyfirefoxisblocked.com is all about. Yet another sad, desperate attempt at bringing "Americanism" to the world, like that's what the 95% of the world's population that is not American need. I'm sorry guys, but bringing up absolute tripe like this is not helping your cause. Likening people who don't like to play "Poke The Monkey" or watch your retina burning pop-ups to Nazi Germany won't endear you to anybody.

If this isn't the final nail in the coffin of the anti-adblockers, proving beyond doubt that they're incapable of considering anything beyond their tiny sphere of existence, then I'm not sure what will be. Get Firefox and AdBlock+ here. Take back the web. And in the meantime, we can thank these guys for one thing. By implementing total Firefox blocking, they've made it so much easier to decide who not to give our time, attention or money to.
